Today I slept past 8 AM. I read a book and quietly sipped my coffee. I took an uninterrupted shower and listened to whatever radio station I wanted as I drove.
I stopped by Sephora and leisurely browsed through, looking at whatever caught my eye.
I went to Powell's Books and browsed aimlessly for hours, swimming in literature, as I love to do.
An absolutely perfect day.
And this is what really happened...
I woke up at 6:45 AM when Sadie started screaming for me. Tried to get her to snuggle on the couch with me while we drank our coffee (hers is hot chocolate.) She then spilled my coffee after I had only one sip. She vehemently disagreed with my selected programming and insisted on watching the Wiggles (thanks Evan.)
I took a shower while the Wiggles were dancing away and was followed by a cranky Sadie who wanted to stand with the shower curtain open, but not get in the shower with me, and complain that she was getting wet.
I bribed her with a shopping trip and had to play radio dj for toddler songs for the whole trip. Sadie LOVES The Farmer in the Dell.
We went to Sephora where I spent the entire 10 minutes inside watching Sadie and reminding her not to touch anything and not looking at anything for myself. Proceeded to buy her a $9 bottle of Mermaid Blue nail polish that will break open all over my shirt later that day. Will manage to save some and put it in a different bottle so Sadie can have blue toenails.
Then we went to Powell's Books and walked rapidly through my favorite section on my way to the children's books where we spent a peaceful 10 minutes reading new books. And then a little boy sat down at the table with Sadie and the terrible two's reared it's ugly head and we had to vamoose in a hurry. With no books to take home with us.
Quite the difference.
Whew...parenting is hard.
